Our Exhibition - The Queenstown Story , is an informative and emotive look at Irish Emigration. Visitors will follow the story from the 1600s when transportation to the British overseas colonies was commonplace, Destinations such as Virginia, New England and the islands of the Caribbean . In the late 1700s Australia became the new destination for convicts and political prisoners. By the 1800s North America became popular and by the time of the Great Famine thousands of destitute Irish emigrants were fleeing in the hope of a better life .This port also has a great connection with both Titanic and The Lusitania and the story of those two disasters is also included in our exhibition.
